How Matchups Work in Fitness Wrapped

Matchups turn the activity your group already records in Apple Health into a week- or month-long competition. Everyone keeps training as usual. Fitness Wrapped handles the leaderboard and the final recap.

What is a matchup?

A matchup is a private competition between friends in Fitness Wrapped. Pick a week or month, invite your group, then keep using the apps and devices you already use. Fitness Wrapped compares everyone's eligible Apple Health activity over the same dates.

You do not have to do the same workouts. A runner can compete with a lifter, walker, cyclist, or swimmer because there is more than one way to lead.

Start a matchup

  1. 1Open the Matchups tab and tap the add button.
  2. 2Choose a week or month, then invite your friends.
  3. 3Check the details and send the invite.
  4. 4Keep working out. Eligible activity syncs from Apple Health.

Seven ways to lead

The leaderboard is not only a race for the most active time. Switch categories to see who leads in:

  • Active time
  • Workouts
  • Steps
  • Workout streak
  • Peak day
  • Workout variety
  • Active days

One person might log the most time while someone else owns the streak, the biggest day, or the widest mix of workouts.

While it is live

Open the matchup anytime to check the leaderboard, move between categories, and see how much time is left. Scores update from the activity each person has synced to Apple Health.

The Matchup Wrap stays locked until the end. No spoilers.

When time is up

Tap Reveal the results to play your group's Matchup Wrap. It calls out the group favorite, cardio and strength leaders, who owned the most days, the roles everyone earned, the day-by-day race, and the overall champion.

What friends can see

Matchups share the totals needed for the competition, not your raw health data. Other participants do not see routes, heart-rate samples, exact workout times, or your full workout history.

Only people in the matchup can see its leaderboard and results. Joining one does not create a public profile.
